Local Electrician in Milton Keynes

Electrical Safety You Can Rely On

Milton Keynes is unlike almost any other town in the UK. Planned from scratch and developed at pace from the late 1960s onwards, its residential areas were built in distinct phases across a grid of dual carriageways — each grid square a self-contained neighbourhood with its own character, architecture and era of construction. Fishermead, Conniburrow, Neath Hill and Bradwell Common represent the earlier phases of development from the 1970s. Broughton, Brooklands and Cranfield Park Road reflect the newer builds that have continued to extend the city outward into the 2000s and beyond. Alongside the planned new city, older communities in Bletchley, Wolverton and Newport Pagnell predate the new town entirely and bring with them a different set of property types, construction methods and electrical histories.

At Milton Keynes Electrical, we work across all of it. We understand the electrical installation characteristics of different eras of MK housing — from the original 1970s grid square installations that are now well over 40 years old to the modern developments where new connections, EV chargers and smart home systems are the priority. Whatever your property and whatever the job, we bring local knowledge and registered expertise to every call-out. Get in touch and we will come out to take a look.

Central Milton Keynes Grid Squares

Central Milton Keynes Grid Squares

The original grid square estates of Fishermead, Conniburrow, Eaglestone, Neath Hill, Bradwell Common and Coffee Hall were among the first residential areas developed as part of the new town masterplan. Built predominantly in the 1970s and early 1980s, these properties now have electrical installations that are approaching or exceeding 50 years old in many cases. EICRs, consumer unit upgrades and full rewires are among the most common jobs we carry out in these areas. We know the construction methods and electrical arrangements of this era well, and deal with whatever we find efficiently and without unnecessary complications.

Bletchley, Fenny Stratford and Water Eaton

Bletchley predates the Milton Keynes new town designation by several decades, and the housing stock here is more varied than in the planned grid squares. Victorian and Edwardian terraces sit alongside inter-war semis, post-war estates and more recent development — each era bringing different construction methods and electrical installation characteristics. The older properties in Bletchley and Fenny Stratford are among the most likely in the MK area to have installations that have never been formally inspected or comprehensively updated. We carry out EICRs, rewires, consumer unit upgrades and all general electrical work across this part of the city.

Newport Pagnell, Olney and the Northern Villages

Newport Pagnell and Olney are market towns with their own distinct character, sitting to the north of the main Milton Keynes urban area. Both have a mix of older period housing — including Georgian and Victorian stock in their town centres — alongside 20th century residential development and newer builds on their edges. The villages of Emberton, Sherington, Cold Brayfield and Haversham add further variety. We cover all of this area for domestic electrical work of all types, bringing the same registered, certified approach to every job regardless of property age or location.

Woburn Sands, Aspley Guise and the Southern Villages

South and east of the main MK urban area, the villages of Woburn Sands, Aspley Guise, Bow Brickhill, Little Brickhill and Woburn itself offer a very different character to the planned new town. Properties here range from Victorian cottages and Edwardian semis to larger detached homes, and many sit within or adjacent to areas of particular natural beauty or conservation sensitivity. Electrical work in older rural properties — particularly rewires and EICR assessments — can turn up a wider range of installation types and conditions than in more uniform new town stock. We handle all of it.

Why Choose Us

We take a safety-first approach to every installation, combining professional workmanship with clear communication. Our electricians explain the work required, carry out upgrades carefully, and ensure your home’s electrics are protected for years to come.

House Rewiring

A full house rewire replaces all the wiring, consumer unit and accessories in a property — the most thorough electrical upgrade available. For homes in Milton Keynes’s older grid square estates, Bletchley and the surrounding villages where original installations have never been replaced, a rewire addresses deterioration, non-compliance and inadequate capacity in one complete project. We manage the full process from first fix cabling through to a certified, building-control-notified installation. All rewiring work is self-certified under our competent person scheme registration and comes with an Electrical Installation Certificate on completion.

Consumer Unit Upgrades

Replacing an old fuse board with a modern consumer unit incorporating RCD and RCBO protection is one of the most cost-effective electrical safety improvements available. It does not require a full rewire and can be completed in a single day in most properties. If your property has a rewireable fuse board, a split-load board without full RCD protection, or a modern board that has simply run out of spare ways for additional circuits, a consumer unit upgrade is worth discussing. We carry out consumer unit replacements across Milton Keynes, managing the full scope from disconnection through to certification.

EV Charger Installation

EV Charger Installation

Milton Keynes has one of the highest rates of electric vehicle uptake of any UK city, and home charging installations are among the most frequently requested jobs we carry out. A 7kW smart charger allows full overnight charging at significantly lower cost than public chargers, and can be programmed to take advantage of off-peak electricity tariffs. We carry out EV charger installations across Milton Keynes and the surrounding area — assessing the existing consumer unit, planning the cable route to the charge point position, and providing a fully certified, registered installation from start to finish.
